Amazing Grace, Columbia 10.7 powered by Electroprop Mariner
My wife and I bought our 1979 Columbia 10.7 meter sailboat “Amazing Grace” in Spring of 2010 and though we enjoyed our time of her the constant maintenance requirements of the Yanmar diesel, the accompanying stink of the fuel and exhaust took away from our enjoyment. Being “Green-minded” individuals my wife and I began considering alternative means of propulsion as our auxiliary source. Along with these considerations we were also concerned by my wife’s hearing loss which made communication while under diesel power very difficult and for potentially dangerous situations.
Our investigation led us to check out several companies which provide electric drives and after careful consideration we decided to go with Propulsion Marine’s air/water-cooled system. The support and patience of James Lambden and the clear instructions made the installation simple and successful. James’ personal attention took away the trepidation I first felt at tackling the installation alone and he was always ready to answer my questions.
We have now been enjoying our clean, quiet electric drive for several months and are “evangelising” wherever we go – promoting the joys of going electric. It is a wonderful, truly “Green” way to experience life of the water.
